El Civics is a federally funded program directed to help newcomers live successful lives in the United States. The goal is to assist programs in providing instruction in civics that goes beyond the classroom lessons that require students to apply their English in a practical way in the community so that they can fulfill their roles as family members, workers, and community participants.

Fall Semester, 2009

  • #13- Interact with the local school system regarding children’s education Beginning Low to Advanced
  • #7- Identify effective ways to safeguard families and homes Beginning Low to Advanced
  • #28- Communicate with doctors, nurses, and dentists Beginning Low to Advanced
  • #32- Locate, analyze, and describe job requirements, including licenses, credentials, etc. needed for specific jobs. Intermediate Low to Advanced
  • #19- Access local and state agencies that specialize in immigrants’ rights and orientation to the new culture Intermediate Low -Advanced
  • #14- Identify educational opportunities and research education/ training required to achieve a personal goal.
  • #12-DMV- Read, interpret, and identify legal response to driving regulations, roadside signs/signals, traffic stops, and traffic citations.
